Painful for you and for me. I have no answer to your question. I can only say I tried to “know” but parenting is incredibly hard. No excuses. Just as I could not see everything from your perspective, you could not see mine. But you suffered and for that I am eternally sorry and grateful that you are my daughter. Your thinking and writing are glorious—if painful.
ReplyDeleteThis is very powerful and very painful to read. Thinking about how you were suffering and how we failed to fully comprehend what was happening in your life is anguishing. I'm filled with "if only" regrets but your inner strength and our eventual understanding of what you experienced added to the new knowledge regarding autism is a positive outcome for all of us.
